1. The concept of the "critical period" and the "imprint" are defined.  How the imprint occurs, in terms of location and the creating mechanisms.  The biological and psychological effect of the imprint are discussed.

2. The effect of the imprint on hormone secretions and behavior.  Sympath and parasympath syndromes are discussed.  The prototypic defining action as a pre-verbal experience is discussed.

3. The Left and Right Brain:
a. Functions defined.
b. Structure of connection defined.

4. Differences between cognitive and Primal Therapy relative to the languages of the left and right brain.

Content Description

This course defines the "critical period" and the "imprint" and their importance in brain development and behavioral development. The left and right brain are defined in terms of function and how cognitive and Primal Therapy approaches this difference in function.

To define critical developmental phases and to define brain function and to correlate that function to an effective therapeutic approach.

To understand the limitations of a particular therapeutic approach and to develop an effective therapeutic approach it is necessary to understand the function of brain structures, how events are encoded in these structures and how these events may and must be accessed to provide connection and relief from overloaded trauma.
